Doing Better, Every Step of the Way

Sustainability isn’t our strategy. It’s our starting point. From the materials we choose to the packaging that arrives at your door, every step is designed to do right by the ocean.

Fabric

JUNKX was born from a simple idea: reclaim ocean waste and repurpose it into something better. And that’s exactly what we’ve done. ECONYL® is a luxury Italian nylon made from rescued ocean and landfill waste — including ghost fishing nets. It looks, feels, and performs like virgin nylon, but without the environmental baggage. Compared to virgin nylon, ECONYL®:

  • Uses 50% less energy
  • Uses up to 90% less water
  • Emits up to 90% fewer greenhouse gases
  • Eliminates the need for raw fossil fuels
  • Helps clean up the ocean and landfills

Process — #FROMJUNKTOJUNKX

1. Recovery:

1. Recovery:

Ghost nets are recovered from the sea by our partners at Healthy Seas and their growing network of 350+ volunteer divers.

2. Regeneration:

2. Regeneration:

The recovered ghost nets, along with landfill waste are then repurposed into ECONYL® in Italy through an innovative closed-loop (waste reducing) process.

3. Manufacturing:

3. Manufacturing:

Once the regenerated yarn lands in Canada, we cut, sew, and craft each pair of boxer briefs right here at home in small batches. Manufacturing in small batches—unlike fast fashion—helps us reduce waste, maintain tighter quality control, lower emissions, and ensure fair working conditions.

4. Impact:

4. Impact:

Ocean conservation is our mission. That’s why 5% of profits go straight back into fighting ghost nets and restoring underwater habitats. Your underwear’s got some serious sea legs.

5% for the ocean

The ocean needs more than awareness—it needs action. That’s why we donate 5% of our profits to organizations making real waves in ocean conservation:

Healthy Seas

Healthy Seas tackles one of the ocean’s deadliest threats: ghost nets. These lost or abandoned fishing nets continue trapping and killing marine life long after they’ve been discarded. Healthy Seas works with divers and communities to recover these nets and recycle them into ECONYL®—the very fabric we use to make your JUNKX underwear. It’s a full-circle solution we proudly support.
